Resident Leave A Mess? 5 Cleaning Hacks To Get Your Rental Sparkling

There are few things more stressful to a landlord than having your residents move out and walking into a huge mess. Most residents make some effort to clean up when they move out, but there are those who just leave with years of dirt and grime for the homeowner to contend with. If this has happened to you, here are some cleaning hacks that can help make cleanup less painful:

1. Residents Who Smoked In The Home.

Be sure that you thoroughly clean all walls before repainting. The fresh paint will not cover up the nicotine build-up or the smell. Wash walls with a vinegar and water solution or TSP. For the carpet, your best bet is to tear it up and replace it. If that isn’t possible, you should have it professionally cleaned. It will still smell, so spray it down with a solution of vinegar and water. Do this several times.

2. The Bathroom Has Years Of Build Up

Once again, vinegar is your friend. Use it to clean shower doors. You can also soak fixtures such as shower heads in it to remove build-up and restore shine.

3. Ceiling Fan Never Cleaned

Take a pillow case and put it over the blade, then pull the dirt off with the pillow case. This helps get the bulk of dust and grime off before you use any water or cleaning solution on it.

4. Built Up Grime And Water Deposits On Glass.

Vinegar is great for this, but if you need more help then go for some really fine steel wool. Be sure that it is glass-safe. You can find this at hardware stores.

5. Stains On Laminate Countertops

Make a paste with baking soda and water. Apply to the stain and cover with a damp paper towel. Let sit for a couple of hours and wipe off.

Cleaning up after messy residents is rough. You can do it yourself, or you can have your Kalispell property manager handle it for you. Property managers can also help screen applicants to make sure that you are getting quality residents who will care for your property.
